Christy Refractories manufactures Christy Cast refractory castables. Christy Cast has seen extensive use in many applications including burner blocks, troughs, liners, tap blocks, carbon bake shapes, stalk/riser tubes, and flow control components.
Our refractory castables are researched and developed in our Research and Development Lab. Our lab is staffed with expert ceramic engineers and material scientists. The lab is responsible for new product ideas and ways of improving existing products. We can section and examine your spent refractory to determine causes of failure. With our failure analysis complete, we can custom design your material to alleviate your failure method. We can reformulate castables to change everything – from chemistry, to rheology, to end use temperature. Our Christy Cast line consists of varying cement levels, from high cement conventional mixes to ultra low cement mixes. We have developed several insulating mixes as well as several non-wetting mixes for use in aluminum contact applications. We offer fused silica based, calcined flint clay based, mullite based, bauxite based, and alumina based mixes.
Our Refractory Research and Development lab can perform a number of ASTM refractory tests in house as well as through third party independent laboratories. We can perform the following tests in-house for quick turnarounds:
- ASTM C20 Apparent Porosity, Water Absorption, Apparent Specific Gravity, and Bulk Density of Refractories
- ASTM C133 Cold Crush Strength and Cold Modulus of Rupture of Refractories
- ASTM C704 Abrasion Resistance of Refractory Materials
Our lab also ensures the consistency of our castable products and precast pieces through a comprehensive QC program from raw materials qualification to finished castables testing. We are constantly developing new mixes for use or sale. Contact us with your castable needs today.
